Addison Airport (IATA: ADS, ICAO: KADS, FAA LID: ADS) is a public airport located in the Town of Addison, an incorporated city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. It is nine miles (14 km) north of the central business district of the city of Dallas.[1]
The airport was established in 1954 and was purchased by the Town of Addison in 1976.[2] It is the busiest general aviation airport in Texas and among the five busiest in the United States. In addition, it is the busiest single-runway airport in the country. The airport is also home to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.
The Addison Airport Toll Tunnel allows east-west traffic to cross the airport property under the runway and was completed in 1999.
Facilities and aircraft
Addison Airport covers an area of 368 acres (149 ha) and contains one runway designated 15/33 with a 7,202 x 100 ft. (2,195 x 30 m) asphalt pavement. For the 12-month period ending December 31, 2006, the airport had 133,557 aircraft operations, an average of 365 per day: 88% general aviation, 12% air taxi, <1% scheduled commercial and <1% military. At that time there were 774 aircraft based at this airport: 49% single-engine, 24% multi-engine, 24% jet and 3% helicopter.[1]
